B’nai B’rith International concluded its Triennial meeting on Jan. 10 with the election of Robert Spitzer as the organization’s new president.

Spitzer, who previously served as senior vice president and chairman of the B’nai B’rith strategic planning committee, will begin his three-year term immediately.

“In its 182-year history, B’nai B’rith has been one of the Jewish world’s leading community builders,” Spitzer said. “Given the turmoil in the Middle East and the rise of antisemitism around the world, its work is more important now than at any other time since the Holocaust.”

As president, he plans to “enhance grassroots engagement” and strengthen ties between American and global B’nai B’rith members.

His father, Jack Spitzer, was president of B’nai B’rith from 1978 to 1982. He “aspired to join B’nai B’rith’s leadership from an early age, having grown up in a household where B’nai B’rith’s values were a familiar part of life.”

A lawyer and real estate developer, Spitzer was president of B’nai B’rith Seattle and has been actively involved in the Seattle Jewish Federation for nearly 30 years.
