The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot was ranked sixth in an annual innovation index that was published this week by Nature.
The Israeli public research university was the only non-US institution to finish in the top 15 of the list of 200 schools.
The Scripps Research Institute came in first, followed by Rockefeller University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Massachusetts Medical School and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Professor Daniel Zajfman — the president of Weizmann — said in a statement, “Our high place in this index reflects our guiding philosophy, which says that we recruit scientists who are among the best in the world and let them follow their curiosity. That is what leads, in the end, to innovative and surprising new applications that shape the future.”
Other Israeli institutions included in the ranking were Hebrew University of Jerusalem (56th), Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (121st) and Tel Aviv University (156th).
