Jewish Life Television/JLTV proudly announces the premiere of Air Land & Sea in Porto, Portugal. Hosted by Brad Pomerance, this episode from JLTV’s global travel series uncovers the story of the Jewish people in Portugal’s second city, Porto – from the era of Moorish rule, to the Inquisition period and through the community’s miraculous return to Porto in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Air Land & Sea in Porto, Portugal will premiere on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 9:00PM ET/PT and runs one hour.
The episode includes interviews with:
- Isabel Ferreira Lopes, the granddaughter of Captain Barros Basto, who spearheaded the
reestablishment of Portugal’s Jewish community in Porto in the early 20th century. Basto was persecuted for his efforts and became known as the “Portuguese Dreyfus.” - The Honorable Maria Roseira, who, when serving as the President of the Portuguese Socialist Party in the Parliament in 2013, led the passage of Portugal’s Sephardic Citizenship Law, which allows descendants of Portuguese Jews expelled during the Inquisition Era to apply for Portuguese Citizenship.
- Michael Rothwell, from the Porto Jewish Community, who details the history of the glorious return of a Jewish community to Porto in the early 20th century and the consecration of the majestic Kadoorie Synagogue.
- Hugo Miguel Vas, the Curator of the Porto Jewish Museum, who regales the audience with his extensive knowledge of the history of Portuguese Jewry over the last several centuries.
