As part of an ongoing program, Shaare Zedek recently welcomed two doctors from the University of Gondar Hospital in Ethiopia who have come to Shaare Zedek Medical Center for training.

For the past five years, our doctors and staff have been part of the training and education of the staff at the University of Gondar Hospital. As part of this effort, the head of our Eva and Alexander Heiden Pediatric Cardiology Unit, Dr. Daniel Fink, has traveled to Ethiopia and provided the hospital’s staff with training on advanced methods for diagnosing heart disease. Dr. Fink explained that in addition to the training, “We developed a program that allows the hospital staff in Gondar to broadcast ECG and ECHO tests results via email and we, in Shaare Zedek can advise the Ethiopian team about continuing treatment…in real time.”

Dr. Tigabu Zamana, one of the doctors currently undergoing training in our Pediatric Cardiology Unit shared, “The training in Shaare Zedek exceeded my expectations. Here, I very much felt at home. The staff was very welcoming and I am very thankful. It was my good fortune to meet Dr. Fink. He taught me various diagnostic methods and therapeutic approaches. I hope this marks the beginning of a significant improvement in the quality of care provided at the hospital in Gondar… thanks to this program we will be able to perform a quick and professional diagnosis and save our patients long and arduous trips [to other medical facilities].”

Special thanks to the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) for initiating this collaborative effort and for providing advanced medical devices including stethoscopes and an advanced ECG Machine.
