The New York Sun was virtually the only news outlet in North America to cover the scandal that the State Dept blocked the GAO from issuing is report on the PA and UNRWA school books
On June 4, 1019, the GAO director sent me a personal note that the GAO report was officially released, which affirmed what our agency had been reporting for 18 years, ever since the PA began to issue its new school books, which is that the State Department and US AID lied to the US Congress when it issued false reports that the US had issued a peace curriculum to supplement the PA and UNRWA war indoctrination curriculum.

BACKGROUND: With the genesis of the nascent Palestinian Ministry of Education, the Center for Near East Policy Research, which I direct, took upon itself the responsibility to examine attitudes to war and peace which appear in Palestinian Authority schoolbooks used by the PA and UNRWA, ever since the PA issued its new school books in August 2000
We gained access to new PA school books after I politely asked permission of PLO leader Yassir Arafat to examine these texts.
Arafat, who always reminded the world that he was a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, assured me that new PA textbooks would promote peace and reconciliation.
And on August 1, 2000, on the very day that the first new PA school books were first issued, I met with the Nayim Abu Hummus PA Minister of Education at the PA Ministry of Education Abu Hummus sent me to the PA school book stores, with Arafat’s permission, to purchase the fist PA school books published by the PA.
Ever since , our staff has met with all three subsequent PA ministers of education, with the authorization of the PA, we wound up buying all 364 PA schoolbooks issued by the PA and UNRWA
We then commissioned Dr. Arnon Groiss, a 42 year veteran of the Voice of Israel Arab Department to examine the PA school books.
And over the past 19 years, all 364 texts were examined and found to be devoid of any education for either peace or co-existence.
However, the US State Department and its conduit, US AID, issued annual reports in which they cited the PA/UNRWA peace curriculum which does not exist, and presented these reports to annual AIPAC policy conferences, and would not allow the Center for Near East Policy Research to present its reports.
As recently as March 26, 2019 the Center for Near East Policy Research showed up at AIPAC with its full complement of experts on PA/UNRWA education.
An AIPAC told me colleague that it would not allow us to present our material at AIPAC
Now we have been vindicated.
Will AIPAC change its policy?
Time will tell. Peruse our site and you will learn more about PA/UNRWA “education”.
