In a course on the subject “Computer-aided Design,” at the Architecture Faculty of Buenos Aires University, a student presented her project as a vacuum cleaner in the shape of a war cannon with a swastika.

Her colleagues denounced her work to the media and the Faculty. The University acted immediately on the basis of its recent adoption of the Definition of Antisemitism of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

Architecture Dean, Guillermo Cabrera, immediately repudiated all images that banalize the Holocaust. Following an evaluation, it was decided that the student undertake a training program on anti-Semitism with the Wiesenthal Centre.

“We congratulate the Faculty for its rapid action and its establishing clear limits to the unacceptable,”“The objective is not to sanction, if not necessary. If you learn to hate, you can also learn to stop hating. We look forward to working with the student to help her back to the right path,” concluded Wiesenthal Centre Directors for Latin America, Dr. Ariel Gelblung and for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, respectively.
