We are pleased to announce that, starting in mid-January, YAAANA will offer a Tuesday class series exploring Yiddish language and culture through literature, music, theater, and film! The class is suitable for people of all ages, denominations, and fluency-levels.

Every class is scheduled for 90 minutes, with the first half of each class devoted to Yiddish culture and the second half to the language itself. Classes will be accompanied by snacks and beverages to allow attendees to mingle and socialize.

Opening Night, Jan. 16th //

• Tuesdays: Jan. 16th, 23rd, 30th, Feb. 6th, 20th, and 27th
(no class on Feb. 13 due to the Film Festival)
• 7-8:30pm at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, 2nd floor Activity Room (next to the Library)

Unfortunately, YAAANA did not receive a grant to cover the cost of classes, but food and beverages are included in the price of admission to all classes— $125 for general public and $108 for the JCC members. Scholarships are available.

About the instructor:
Jana Mazurkiewicz Meisarosh is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan. She is working on her dissertation on Yiddish Theater in Communist Warsaw. Originally from Poland, Jana holds an Master of Arts degree in Polish Philology and Jewish Studies from the University of Wrocław. In addition to professional experience in acting, directing, and playwriting, she taught Yiddish as a private tutor. Jana is not only a practicing academic, but also an active theater artist and critic. In October 2017, she moved to San Diego and launched The Yiddish Arts and Academics Association of North America (YAAANA), an institution that promotes Yiddish scholarship, literature, theater, and various genres of music and dance, through community-building events.
