Advanced Yiddish: Di Goldene Pave: Dos kol fun dem yidishn shrayber

Sunday 10:30 AM to Noon EST

Course Goals: To study some of the great writers of Yiddish literature while improving listening and comprehension skills.

Course Description: This course will use my book and recordings, Di Goldene Pave: Dos kol fun dem Yidishn shrayber/The Golden Peacock as a basis. Through this collection, which features the work and voices of  12 Yiddish writers, we will become acquainted with the work of poets Itsik Manger, Avrom Sutzkever, Rokhl Korn and Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman, as well as prose writers Sholem-Aleichem and Yekhiel Shraibman. We will also improve our listening skills as we listen  to these writers reading from their own work in their various dialects. The contents of the book will be supplemented by other recordings of these writers collected by the instructor.
