The Youth Centre ‘Amichai’ in Frankfurt has won this year’s Jewrovision contest, Europe’s biggest dance and singing competition for Jewish youth, which took place for the first time in the city of Dresden.

Dr. Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, the country’s EJC affiliate handed the winners the trophy, in the Messe Dresden in front of more than 2.000 cheering spectators.

Second place went to the group ‘Or Chadasch’ Mannheim, together with JuJuBa (Jewish Youth Baden), third place went to ‘Chai’ Hannover. The price for the best performance video also went to ‘Amichai’ Frankfurt.

A jury, which included actors Daniel Donskoy, Aaron Altaras, Susan Sideropoulos, Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum, and musicians Ben Salomo and Ilan Schulz chose the winners from 18 participating groups. The Jewrovision, which took place in the context of a Jewish youth meeting, ran under the motto “Circle of Life” this year.

Central Council President Dr. Schuster stated: “At Jewrovision, many of the participants make friendships for life. Through this shared experience, they are able to connect. And that’s why the Jewrovision is part of the cycle of Jewish life. Participants return to their communities after Jewrovision with a strengthened Jewish identity and with a reinforced sense of community, and are able to contribute to a diverse and modern Judaism”

At this year’s Jewrovision, 1200 young people between the ages of ten and 19 from 65 Jewish communities participated. The contest was launched in 2002 and has been hosted hosted in different cities throughout Germany.

Since 2013, Jewrovision has been organised by the Central Council of Jews in Germany.
