Mossad head David Barnea on Monday announced the appointment of “A.” as the intelligence agency’s next deputy director.
A. will replace H., who has served as the organization’s deputy director since 2021, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a joint statement with the Mossad, only identifying the two by their Hebrew initials.
The appointment of A., who previously served in the human intelligence division, continues the “organizational change that Director Barnea has led since the beginning of his term, which includes the significant expansion of operations based on HUMINT and the organization’s technology arm,” the statement read.
The Monday statement also noted that senior Mossad command officials will be replaced when their terms expire this summer.
The agency also said that “major resources will be invested in the development of new capabilities in cyber and AI, alongside the integration of, and increase in, the traditional capabilities of recruiting and operating agents, which constitute the foundations of the clandestine activity of an intelligence organization.”
During a visit to Mossad headquarters ahead of Passover last month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed the need for unity amid ongoing tensions with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“This holiday is different, because ‘they rose up against us to destroy us.’ This is a very tangible thing, from the axis of evil of Iran and its proxies, including Hamas,” Netanyahu told the organization’s department heads in reference to Passover, which was celebrated April 22-29.
