Israeli President Isaac Herzog is scheduled to begin a two-day visit to New York on Sunday, focusing on the challenges facing U.S. Jews amid rising antisemitism, his office said Wednesday.

Herzog will deliver the keynote address at the annual event honoring Yeshiva University, one of the world’s leading Jewish academic institutions, according to to the statement. He is set to receive an honorary doctorate at the event.

Herzog is also scheduled to attend the American Zionist Movement (AZM) conference as a guest of honor, which brings together a wide range of Zionist organizations in the United States.

“Against a background of the deeply concerning rise in antisemitic incidents from both the right and the left in the United States, and amidst significant concern voiced by the Jewish community following the mayoral election results in New York City, the president will address the challenges facing American Jewry in his public appearances,” read the statement.

Last month, Zohran Mamdani, a far-left Muslim politician from Uganda who has defended the slogan calling to “globalize the intifada,” won the New York City mayoral race.

Herzog will also meet key opinion leaders, members of Congress and senators, and presidents of leading universities from across the United States, his office said.
