The official logo for the central torch-lighting ceremony at Jerusalem’s Mount Herzl marking the 77th anniversary of the State of Israel was unveiled on Monday, symbolizing the bond and shared hopes among a diverse Israeli society.
The logo incorporates a graphic fusion of the Star of David and the number 77, depicted as a dual-sided bridge radiating beams of light in keeping with the theme of this year’s event “bridges of hope” which, like the number itself, is emblazoned underneath in yellow as a tribute to the scores of hostages still being held in Gaza.
“This logo represents far more than a mere visual design,” said Minister of Transportation Miri Regev, who also heads the organizing committee for Independence Day celebrations. “It is a declaration that, despite our differences and the pain we have endured, there remains a profound unity that binds us together.”
The popular ceremony, which is broadcast live on Israeli television channels, marks the start of Independence Day, which falls this year on May 1, and serves as an abrupt shift after the solemn Memorial Day preceding it, traditionally the most somber day on the national calendar.
