Iran will respond harshly to any Israeli action against its regional interests, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, according to the Tasnim news agency.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has been present in Syria at the invitation and with the agreement of that country’s government with the purpose of fighting against terrorism sponsored by the U.S. and Israel, and our country will not hesitate for a moment over safeguarding its presence in Syria and defending its national security and regional interests, and will give a decisive and crushing response to any act of aggression or stupid move,” said ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will also prosecute the Quds [Jerusalem]-occupying regime [Israel] for its threats and warmongering comments,” the spokesperson stated according to the report.

His statements seem to be in response to comments made by Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett, who issued a stern warning to Iran on Tuesday, saying that Jerusalem was “changing the paradigm” and would no longer only strike back at the Islamic Republic’s proxy forces in the region.

His comments came after ongoing Iranian threats against Israel.

Iran will “raze Tel Aviv to the ground” if attacked by the United States, said Iran’s Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaee on Saturday. Tehran has been looking for a pretext to attack Tel Aviv because Israel had played a role in the “martyrdom” of Quds Force commander Gen. Qassem Soleimani, added the former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander-in-chief.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said last week that the regime will support Palestinian terrorist groups as much as it can.
