Jewish first-time candidate and former aide in the Trump administration Max Miller, 32, easily defeated his two opponents for the GOP nomination in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District on Tuesday.
Miller, who was endorsed early in his campaign by former President Donald Trump, beat his three Republican rivals by receiving 71.8% of the vote.
Ohio’s new 7th Congressional District was recently redrawn by the GOP majority legislature to combine two districts. Both incumbents of the former districts, Reps. Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio) and Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio), did not seek re-election.
Miller will face Democratic primary winner media entrepreneur Matthew Diemer, 42, who is also a first-time candidate and won the primary with 55% of the vote.
The district is considered a safe Republican seat by University of Virginia politics professor Larry Sabato, known for his U.S. election predictions and analyses compiled on Sabato’s Crystal Ball.
