LA JOLLA, California — San Diego Jewish World will honor its founder and Editor Emeritus Donald Harrison as well as Roz Rothstein, co-founder and CEO of the influential Israel education organization StandWithUs, at the publication’s inaugural gala on Sunday, July 31, at 4:30 p.m. in La Jolla.

Harrison — a veteran journalist who worked for the The Associated Press and The San Diego Union — became a volunteer writer in 1986 for The San Diego Jewish Press-Heritage, rising through the ranks to become its editor and co-publisher with Norman Greene. Thereafter, Harrison served as a columnist for the now-defunct San Diego Jewish Times, and in 2007 founded San Diego Jewish World, attracting more than 50 volunteer writers to regularly contribute to the daily online publication. Harrison has written six books dealing with San Diego County Jewish history and is now at work on a seventh. Since selling the publication to its current editor and publisher, Jacob Kamaras, Harrison has continued writing and reporting for San Diego Jewish World with an emphasis on travel stories and book reviews. He is well-known as a true mensch and a relentless pursuer of Jewish stories, hence the tagline of San Diego Jewish World, “There is a Jewish story everywhere!”

Rothstein is a true innovator in the Jewish world, creating StandWithUs in her living room with Jerry Rothstein and community leaders in 2001, and growing it to become one of the most effective organizations that fights antisemitism and supports Israel. Its cutting-edge approach through programs in universities, middle and high schools, and social media are creating positive change and reach millions. In 2010, StandWithUs opened an office in San Diego with ongoing events, activism, and programming at schools.

Proceeds from San Diego Jewish World‘s July 31 event will benefit the ongoing operations and growth of the publication, including technology-related upgrades. Proceeds will also partially benefit StandWithUs. Register here: https://sdjwgala.paperform.co/
