Local authorities in Morocco have demolished a Holocaust memorial in the town of Ait Faska near Marrakesh one year into construction, due to a lack of proper building permits, BBC Arabic reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, German NGO PixelHelper had been attempting to construct the largest Holocaust memorial in the world in Marrakesh with the aim of enhancing relations between Islamic countries and Jews.
Ahmed Wihmane, president of the Moroccan Observatory Against Normalization with Israel, saluted the Moroccan authorities for destroying the “so-called Holocaust memorial,” which he said was a “building of shame.”
Speaking in a video uploaded by Hespress Internet TV (Morocco) the same day as the BBC report, Wihmane criticized the government for its “idleness” in having allowed construction on the monument to begin in the first place, particularly since, according to Wihmane, the project’s director is a “homosexual Freemason with Zionist ideologies.”
Wihmane demanded an investigation into the government’s delay in demolishing the memorial.
