Development Company for Israel (International) Ltd/Israel Bonds mourns the passing of Shimon Peres, 9th president of the State of Israel. The last member of Israel’s founding generation, President Peres lived an extraordinary life, with accomplishments distinguishing him as one of the most influential figures in the nation’s history.
Globally respected, President Peres served in every top-level cabinet position, including prime minster, defense minster and foreign minister. A resolute optimist who steadfastly pursued his vision of peace, he was the recipient of many of the world’s most prestigious honors, including the Nobel Peace Prize.
Israel Bonds was fortunate to know him as a loyal, steadfast supporter. President Peres spoke frequently at Bonds events in the U.S. and welcomed visiting delegations to Israel with warmth and enthusiasm. In praising the organisation, Peres wrote, “I am indeed happy to have witnessed the countless ways in which Israel Bonds has helped transform this country.”
In that same spirit, Israel Bonds leadership and staff are indeed happy to have had the opportunity to call President Peres a close friend. Statesman, leader and visionary, he profoundly changed Israel, as well as global perceptions of the Jewish state.
The fact that individuals the world over feel a profound sense of loss underscores how President Peres touched the lives of millions. Israel Bonds mourns his passing, but takes solace in knowing his legacy will continue to be an inspiration to us all.
