The Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque announced Monday the honorees for the 10th annual New Mexico Humanitarian Awards and the winner of the 18th annual Harold B. Albert Award and the 2017 Common Good Investing Humanitarian Award.
Art Gardenswartz and Sonya Priestly of Gardenswartz Realty are the recipients of the Harold B. Albert Community Service Award and the 2017 Common Good Investing Humanitarian Award. View the accompanying slideshow to see all the honorees.
Honorees will be recognized at an awards dinner Saturday at the Sandia Resort and Casino. Dreamstyle Remodeling is the presenting sponsor.
The JCC established the New Mexico Humanitarian Awards program in 2008 to honor New Mexicans who have demonstrated an “exemplary spirit of humanity in a local, national or international capacity.” The Harold B. Albert Community Service Award recognizes exemplary service to the Jewish community in Albuquerque.
“JCC has now recognized great humanitarians for a decade and it’s clear how many amazing New Mexicans deserve our thanks and praise,” said JCC Executive Director David Simon in a statement. “But it also shows how much work still remains to build a better world.”
Gardenswartz and Priestly made the largest gift ever to the United Way of Central New Mexico, according to a news release, donating the building that serves as United Way’s headquarters. In December, Gardenswartz Realty purchased the building United Way had rented from Presbyterian Healthcare Services.
JCC said Gardenswartz has helped catalyze the growth of the Jewish Community Foundation, which now has pledged assets close to $10 million.
