Israeli photographer Ariel Tagar is listed on an 87-person short list in the Sony World Photography Awards competition for a series he shot in Uganda.
Of more than 320,000 photos submitted from some 200 countries, Tagar’s series, titled “Uganda’s Vespa Club,” is in the running for the competition’s “professional” category award.
Tagar, from Tel Aviv, was a photographer in the Israel Defense Forces before earning a photography degree from the London College of Fashion.
Another Israeli photographer, Dina Alfasi of Hadera, made the top 50 list for the country’s “open” category competition for a snapshot she took at a Christian baptismal site on the banks of the Jordan River.
Winners in Tagar’s category will be announced on April 19. Alfasi’s award category will be announced on March 20.
