On April 23, 1900, Joseph Green was born in Poland, who emigrated to the United States in 1924 and became a renowned actor in the Yiddish theater.
In 1915, during World War I, he trained at the German theater director Walter Wassermann’s school of dramatic art, at that time directing the Deutsches Theater in Lodz, and in 1916 he made his acting debut with the Lodz amateur company.
Green was one of the few directors of Yiddish films, of which he shot four in Poland, and also provided the Yiddish dubbing for the Italian film “Joseph in the Land of Egypt”.
He died of emphysema on June 20, 1996, at age 96, on Great Neck, Long Island, New York.
