There are a few traditions that President Donald Trump has opted out of, including adopting a first dog, attending the Kennedy Center Honors and going to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

However, when it comes to the winter holidays, Trump is continuing a tradition that was started by George W. Bush in 2001 and will host a White House Hanukkah Party.

According to the Times of Israel, the event will take place on Dec. 7 and may include heads of American Jewish organizations, Jewish members of the administration and Congress, and other prominent American Jews.

While Trump will be the third president to host the annual party, this year will mark a special first for the White House.

Never before in the 228 years since George Washington became the first president of the United States has there ever been a Jewish member of the first family.

First Daughter Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism after she married Jared Kushner, who is also a senior adviser to her father. The two have remained observant of their faith and are raising their kids in the Jewish religion.

“It’s been such a great life decision for me. I am very modern, but I’m also a very traditional person, and I think that’s an interesting juxtaposition in how I was raised as well,“ she told Vogue in 2015. ”I really find that with Judaism, it creates an amazing blueprint for family connectivity.”

It’s unclear what role the president or his family will play in the traditional celebration of the holiday of lights. However, if Ivanka attends, she will be the first Jewish member of the first family to partake in the event.
