UK student union backs protest commemorating Palestinian terrorists

“It is abhorrent that the Palestinian Society, together with the support of the student union, so overtly supported the ‘March of Return,’ ” Tamara Berens, CAMERA on Campus UK Associate, told JNS. “The purpose of this march was to harm innocent Israeli civilians living near the border with Gaza. However, I am sadly unsurprised about the incident.”

Berens, who is a KCL student and is the former president of its Israel Society, continued, saying “the student union has a history of breaching its legal responsibility to remain neutral and often supports Palestinian student groups at the expense of pro-Israel students on campus. Last year, the student union publicized Israel Apartheid Week in an email that was sent to every student enrolled at the college. The Palestinian Society has frequently hosted aggressive protests against Israeli speakers on campus at King’s College London.”

She added that this development is more disturbing considering the overall anti-Semitic trend in Great Britain.

“I think that this is especially alarming in light of [British Labour Party leader] Jeremy Corbyn’s own professed friendship with groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, whom he invited to the UK Parliament in 2009,” she said. “Jeremy Corbyn’s own prominent anti-Israel position has sadly made anti-Zionism acceptable across the country.”
