Debut: New York Klezmer Series Concert!
On Tuesday, March 24, at 8pm, I am excited to invite you to the New York Klezmer Series release concert presenting my new sheet music publication, Musical Treasures from Sofia Magid’s Jewish Ethnographic Collection, Volume II: Klezmer Tunes from Belarus and Ukraine. My long-time music collaborator and friend Lev ‘Ljova’ Zhurbin will join me on the fadolín (6-stringed violin), and, because this is a double bill, we will even play something together with my other two long-time friends and collaborating artists, Adrianne Greenbaum – Flute and Pete Rushefsky (cimbalom).
This folio completes the publication of the instrumental part (92 pieces total) of Sofia Magid’s collection recorded between 1928–38 and never before published. I was fortunate to work on the collection in 2004-5 in St. Petersburg, and now is the time to share this treasure trove of uniquely beautiful music with the world.
Both Volumes I and II, in Concert key and in the key of Bb will be available at the event. You can also order the books online at https://zisl.bandcamp.com.
Venue: Hudson Yards Synagogue, 347 West 34th St. (btw. 8th and 9th Aves), NYC. Tickets $25 general admission / $20 students and seniors at the door.
