U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday said his administration was committed to backing Israel amid reports of an imminent Iranian attack.

“As I told Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu, our commitment to Israel’s security against these threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad,” said Biden.

“Let me say it again, ironclad. We’re going to do all we can to protect Israel’s security,” he added.

Washington and its allies believe a major attack on Israel by Iran is imminent and may be launched in the coming days, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

The Islamic Republic’s response to the killing of an Iranian general in Syria on April 1, which Tehran has blamed on the Jewish state, could involve high-precision missiles being launched at Israel.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Wednesday that Washington supports “Israel’s security and made clear that the U.S. will stand with Israel against any threats by Iran and its proxies.”

The Islamic Republic has said that it will attack Israel directly, with experts divided on whether the threat is a bluff.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that “Israel must be punished, and they will pay for their mistakes.”
