This Sunday is Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), a day to collectively bow our heads and remember the millions of lives taken during the Holocaust. Given the current political climate in the US and around the world, as we get further from those darkest of days and the number of survivors dwindles, it is more imperative than ever that we continue to remember and educate future generations about the Holocaust and to inspire people to stand up to intolerance and hate.

For the last three years, since founding Sosua75 in April of 2014, I have dedicated considerable time and personal resources to educate and illuminate two important and often overlooked events; the 1938 Evian Conference which strived to create a “safe haven” for Jews and the subsequent settlement of 700 displaced Jewish refugees in Sosua, on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic.

I am writing to personally ask you to join me on this incredible journey to create a unique and inspiring Jewish Dominican Cultural Education Center in Sosua which will commemorate the welcoming of Jewish refugees during World War II by the Dominican people; those who stood up for human rights and dignity, and the considerable contributions these Jewish immigrants made in their new home.

Happily, interest and support for this project has grown considerably in the past year and we are at a critical inflection point. Our mission to “Educate and Remember” continues to reach a growing audience through our sosua75.org website and Facebook page, published articles, and presentations I have been honored to give at major Universities and synagogues around the US. In addition, we have forged key partnerships with members of the original Sosua settlers and leaders in the Jewish, business, government, and non-governmental sectors in the Dominican Republic who are behind this project.

To move forward and make this dream a reality will require financial support.

I appreciate your kind consideration of this, our first-ever fundraising campaign. Bringing this important history to the forefront is a life goal to which I am wholeheartedly committed to attain; however, we can only accomplish this together with your generous partnership and support.

This Holocaust Remembrance Day, please consider making a meaningful tax deductible contribution to Sosua75 helping us to continue bringing quality educational programming on these topics to future generations.
