Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday proposed the formation of a unified global advocacy front to combat antisemitism and the vilification of Jews and Israelis worldwide.
“We cannot stand idle and rely on others to combat for us,” Katz wrote in a letter to Jewish communities around the world detailing the rise in antisemitism.
“This coalition will combat antisemitism and the vilification of Israel and Jews worldwide across all media fronts, enlisting Israeli citizens, our government, the Diaspora, friends of Israel and the Jewish world and international allies,” he added, without going into further detail.
“Your participation is vital; together we can overcome the hate that seeks to divide and weaken us as a nation,” Katz said.
Last month, Israel’s Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism announced the launch of a joint strategy aimed at fighting Jew-hatred and the delegitimization of the Jewish state.
During a meeting, Katz and Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli agreed to promote the initiative, which seeks to strengthen the country’s international standing.
“We are in the midst of a war for our lives and we are on the side of justice. We as a country have a responsibility to fight for the good name of our people,” Katz said, according to a statement from his office.
“We aim to work hard in cooperation with the amazing people who have been fighting for Israel since October 7,” he added.
Earlier this month, Israel’s top diplomat urged Christian supporters of Israel to join in the global fight against Jew-hatred, speaking during an address to lawmakers from around the world meeting in Jerusalem.
The proposal follows a surge in antisemitism around the globe in the wake of Hamas’s Oct. 7 invasion of the northern Negev, in which terrorists killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducted around 250 others to Gaza, triggering the current war against the Islamist group.
