This year has seen multiple celebrations across Israel in commemoration of the jubilee or 50 year anniversary of the return of the Jewish people to the Judea, Samaria, the Golan and the Jordan Valley areas of Israel. Last night was particularly significant in that the event held the most distinguished Israeli government officials and was therefore interpreted to mean that the Israeli government was largely in favor of the presence and expansion of the communities of Judea and Samaria.

The celebration last night took place in the community of Kfar Etzion (Judea), which is one of the communities in Gush Etzion (Etzion Block), which was one of the first Israeli communities built in Judea and Samaria after the 6 Day War in 1967.

In Netanyahu’s Facebook post below, the Prime Minister wrote, “we were happy to celebrate with you tonight in Gush Etzion the 50 year anniversary of Jewish life in Judea and Samaria, the Golan and the Jordan Valley. Thank you for your warm welcome. We love you!”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at the event and had the following remarks: “We have brought about magnificent settlement grown in Judea and Samaria that we are maintaining and strengthening – responsibly, wisely and persistently. Settlement is important to you my friends. It is no less important to me and therefore, I tell you clearly and before anything: There will be no more uprooting of communities in the Land of Israel! It is not just a question of links to the homeland, though it is certainly that, but first of all, that is not the way to make peace.”

About one month ago, Netanyahu attended an event in the community of Barkan (Samaria) commemorating the 50 year anniversary of the return of the Jewish people to Judea and Samaria. It was there, for the first time, that Netanyahu promised “no more uprooting of communities in the Land of Israel.”
