Fans concerned about the fate of Mayim Bialik after her writers-strike-inspired departure from hosting the quiz show “Celebrity Jeopardy!” need not worry: In development is a new project returning to the cast of “Blossom,” the 1990s sitcom that made her a household name.
(It was the 1988 film “Beaches,” starring as the younger version of the character played by Bette Midler, that put the child actress on the map.)
While an official announcement has yet to come, Bialik said in an interview with Vanity Fair that the pilot script had been written and that the previous actors, as well as creators and producers, were on board.
“I’m happy to tell you that, yes, it’s true. … We’re hoping to reboot it not as a sitcom, though,” Bialik said. “We want to bring back these interesting, deep characters—a child of divorce, a recovering drug addict, an alcoholic—to see them in a whole new way.”
“Blossom” ran for five seasons—from 1991 through 1995—featuring Bialik as the teenager Blossom Russo, who learned to overcome real-world challenges. Once grown up, the actress would go on to star in another hit sitcom from 2010 to 2019, “The Big Bang Theory.”
The Women’s Zionist Organization of America named Bialik this year as one of “18 American Zionist Women You Should Know.”
