The United States conducted a covert cyber operation against Iran in retaliation for striking two Saudi Aramco facilities on Sept. 14, reported Reuters on Wednesday.

The news agency cited two unnamed U.S. officials, who said the response in late September sought to combat the regime’s capability to spread “propaganda.”

Without going into specifics, one of the officials said that the strike affected physical hardware.

“They must have dreamt it,” said Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi, adding that Iran has denied any attack.

“As a matter of policy and for operational security, we do not discuss cyberspace operations, intelligence or planning,” said Pentagon spokesperson Elissa Smith.
