San Francisco-based Taube Philanthropies has announced a $5 million gift to the Museum of the Jewish People at Beit Hatfutsot in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The gift will help fund construction of the Tad and Dianne Taube Lobby and Taube Family Memorial Entrance; the latter honors Tad Taube’s sister, Nita Hirsch, and their parents, Zyg and Lola Taube. Part of the final phase of a $100 million overhaul of the museum, construction on the new entrance and lobby will begin in the fall and is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. A new wing of the museum that opened in 2016 houses the Alfred H. Moses & Family Synagogue Hall and the Milton and Tamar Maltz Family Children’s Gallery, as well as two galleries for temporary exhibitions.
“The Museum of the Jewish People at Beit Hatfutsot serves to underscore that, irrespective of where we live, the Jewish people are connected through our customs, traditions, and beliefs,” said Taube Philanthropies chair Tad Taube, who became a signatory to the Giving Pledge in 2013. “We are honored to become part of the vision to transform one of the oldest museums in Israel into a twenty-first century landmark that celebrates Jewish peoplehood around the world.
