Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer visited the site of the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria on Thursday to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Lapid spoke in the presence of Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.

Lapid retold the story of how his grandfather was murdered, leaving his father childless at the age of 12.

Nehammer tweeted: “On today’s #HolocaustRemembranceDay I visited Mauthausen with @yairlapid whose grandfather was one of the Jewish victims who were brutally murdered here. We can’t undo these hideous crimes. But we can ensure that we will never forget & continue our fight against antisemitism.”
