The city council in Lithuania’s capital has voted to rename a street that currently bears the name of anti-Semitic Nazi collaborator Kazio Skirpos.

The final tally in the Vilnius city council decision to change the name of Kazio Skirpos Street was 21-16.

Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius supported the measure.

He said that in “a city that is open and respectful to all people, we can’t display extraordinary signs of respect to someone” like Skirpos.

Skirpos founded the Lithuanian Activist Front, which collaborated with the Nazis to kill Jews during the Holocaust.

Groups such as the Simon Wiesenthal Center had advocated for years for the street change.
