In our country, there is no room or tolerance for xenophobia, sick nationalism or anti-Semitism. Such attitudes will lead to exclusion from our society, President Andrzej Duda said Monday, commenting on racist incidents at Saturday’s Independence March in Warsaw.
“In our country there is no room or tolerance for xenophobia, in our country there is no room for sick nationalism, in our country there is no room for anti-Semitism. Such attitudes mean the exclusion from our society. People who behave in this way (…) display an attitude which can only be branded as shameful”, President Duda said.
In Poland, people are aware what Nazism is, what hate is, along with the murder of people for belonging to one nation rather than the other; we learned that lesson with our own blood, Polish President said in Krapkowice (southwest Poland).
“In Poland, people know perfectly well what Nazism means, what hate is, along with the murder of people for belonging to one nation rather than the other”.
“Those who came here from Poland’s eastern borderlands (Kresy) know it perfectly well as their families were murdered by the Nazis, they were witnesses to murder, they were murdered by people of another nationality simply due to xenophobia and hate, and we, the Polish people, know it through and through. I believe that all honest people in the Republic of Poland regard it as a grand historical lesson, that we learned from Poland’s occupiers with our own blood”.
President Duda stressed that such events could never be repeated: “Perhaps some people in the West do not understand that, thus they should re-examine it and explain to themselves well”. (PAP)
